We call it steamboat in Malaysia
but it is called hot pot in China where there are so many different styles of
cooking with different ingredients. In Sichuan the hot pot is so spicy and they
serve it with offal which is not to my taste. The most memorable hot pot that I
had was in Beijing which I have not seen anywhere else. If anyone of you does
get to go to Beijing, you must try and visit this restaurant.
This is the little restaurant that specialises
in the hot stone hot pot.
The pot for cooking the
steamboat is made of stone.
Here the waitress is
preparing to clean the pot.
Steam is released through
the small holes at the bottom of the pot.
She uses the towel and the
steam to wipe the pot clean.
The pot is now ready for
use.
They also use the steam to
cook the food.
Now they put in the ready
cut fish.
Then the soup is added to
the fish.
The clear soup has some
herbs and spices in it.
They then cover the pot
with a cone shaped cover which looks like a hat.
Now you can see the steam
starting to seep out through the cover.
When you see a lot of
steam coming out it means the fish is cooked.
The clear soup is now
milky due to some substance in the fish.
Here we are ready to tuck
in.
The fish is so delicious
especially with the XO sauce.
The soup is quite
extraordinary and so yummy.
There are vegetables, beef
and mutton to add into the hot pot.
This is fish skin which is
a little spicy but very delicious.
The delicious fried rice.
The equally delicious
dumplings.
You guessed it. We finished
everything.
